We enjoyed having Grandma and Grandpa for her birthday weekend last week! They do so much for us that it was fun to make a cake and a meal for them. Happy birthday, Grandma! We love you!

Cat news
Some good news and some bad news. Living on a farm, we have always assumed something could happen to our cats, and Shadow has been gone since July 4th. We've heard a story about our neighbor who had a black cat fighting with his cat. Hmmm. We miss him and are trying to move on with Shelly and the two kittens who are still with us. In good news (to us, maybe not the kids), the other two kittens found a home on a farm with a homeschooling family. So we wish them well. Here is Ava saying good-bye to the two kittens.
The two kittens who are left. Their names keep changing. Midnight is now Shadow Jr. last I heard, and Fifi is now Cheetoh since we found out he's a boy (we think).
And Shelly the mama. RIP Shadow. He really was a great cat for us.
Independence Day
We had a low-key 4th of July this year. Rebekah came and we made good food and set off our own fireworks at the farm. This is the first time we have done that, and we enjoyed the pack that we bought although they all looked suspiciously the same. Ha. But all very nice! The biggest one in the pack maybe burned a little brighter. Then we did smores and headed into town for the city fireworks on the lake. It was sort of perfect!

Getting a little too big for the play area at the mall!
The Witter family visiting that sang and preached. Kids and grandkids visiting of our dear friends, the Hoffman's.
And the farm...sigh
VBS
We had I think one of our easiest weeks ever for VBS this year. It felt almost effortless which is weird for VBS. Our decorations were borrowed so just went right up, our many workers happily volunteered and got involved right away, and the kids just jumped in and had a great time. We almost wondered if we should have done something differently since it felt so easy! But it was another great year with an average of 37 a night. Great lessons and fun crafts and lots of bouncing going on!
